The Friends of Conroe, Inc. is a non-profit community oriented organization committed to the enhancement of the quality of life in Conroe and Montgomery County. It is also committed to promoting civic and cultural improvements by involving citizens from all walks of life in addressing community needs.  Friends of Conroe

• sponsor and produce the Sounds of Texas Music Series bringing local and national attention to the downtown area and the Historic Crighton Theatre
• sponsor and produce the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival each October which makes a significant economic impact on the entire community
• was the founding sponsor and supporter of the Lone Star Convention Center
• is a supporting member of the Greater Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce, the Capital Building Fund and other projects
• support many local charitable organizations, including the Montgomery County Food Bank, Salvation Army, and Montgomery County Emergency Assistance
• provide scholarships to local students and support Operation Graduation
• promote downtown Conroe projects and activities, including revitalization efforts and Christmas lighting

How many people do you serve annually?  This would be difficult to figure. Friends reach many through our donations to other charitable organizations, such as Emergency Assistance, Salvation Army, and the Food Bank. Local businesses, restaurants, and lodgings benefit from the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival held each year.

What area of Montgomery County do you serve?  All areas, but primarily Conroe and downtown Conroe.

What are your current needs?  Volunteers to staff events and monetary donations (see below)

What projects do you anticipate with a one-year goal in mind?

• Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival – This 3-day event takes place in October each year. Through activities, displays, and statewide musical entertainment, the festival spotlights awareness about the downtown area of Conroe and exposes the general public to professional family entertainment and activities while enhancing economic growth in the surrounding business community.
• The Sounds of Texas Music Series – A series of concerts designed to bring local and national attention to the downtown area and the Historic Crighton Theatre.
• Bluebonnet Poetry Slam – this one-night event showcases local and national storytellers and poetry performers.
• "Singin and Swingin" Golf Tournament – This tournament pairs golfers with singers and songwriters to enjoy a day of golf and an evening of "song swaps" to raise money for college scholarships.

What projects do you anticipate with a five-year goal in mind?  Friends hope to continue to provide quality entertainment for Montgomery County through the aforementioned venues, as well as continue to promote civic and cultural improvements for the area.

Do you have on-going volunteer opportunities?  Yes, volunteers are always needed for the festival, as well as the other events.

Do you have a volunteer training program?  Volunteers are trained individually for each event/position as needed.

Do you have an on-going wish list? (e.g. office supplies, food items, toiletries for clients etc.) If so, could you provide the list electronically? We always need money donations, but would welcome a new copy machine, computer upgrades, alarm system.

Is your organization capable of paying for supplies if volunteers provide labor?  Yes, we would furnish necessary items to accomplish a particular task.

Could your employees provide labor if supplies are donated?  No, we are a volunteer driven organization with only one part-time employee.
